Manager, SAP Business Solutions, Finance and Supply Chain

Summary of Position:

Techno-Functional (experience in both configuration and process areas) position with responsibility for overseeing the team supporting Rowan’s finance and supply chain technical solutions.  This key leadership position will report directly to the Director of Corporate Applications and oversee the delivery of ongoing support and special projects for global business solutions.   The right candidate for this position will possess the ability to understand and influence the IT roadmap and deliver detailed technical solutions supporting Rowan’s global finance and supply chain organizations. 

The Manager, SAP Business Solutions, Finance and Supply Chain will primarily focus on directing and prioritizing the work of the SAP Finance and Supply Chain teams including ongoing support and enhancements; planning and oversight of small to medium projects; requirements analysis and definition; applications design and development; implementation and deployment; communications and change management; software upgrades; and vendor management.  This role also ensures successful execution of IT initiatives by addressing organizational readiness, ensuring information technology projects are delivered on schedule within the allocated budget, and delivering a reliable and cost-effective service to support Rowan’s finance and supply chain operations.

In addition to supervising the team, this leader will consult and work closely with business process owners in the Finance and Supply Chain departments to plan, design and implement process driven solutions, and will oversee, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, documentation and ongoing support activities for SAP’s FI, CO, MM and SD modules.

Rowan’s SAP practice is unique in that we support a large breadth of SAP products, yet are still small enough so that analysts have complete ownership in each of the areas of business they support.  We find that employees in this area are most successful when the candidates have a broad experience and depth in development, and by virtue of working with functional consultants and users, they've also acquired skills in business process and functional configuration. Candidates must have strong technical and management/employee mentoring skills, yet be able to effectively converse with our business users in order to gather and understand their business requirements and manage expectations.

 Duties & Responsibilities:                                                                                                                      

  • Directs and prioritizes the work of the SAP FICO and MM teams – 4 direct reports (onshore)
  • Works with business stakeholders to understand and document the long term roadmap for technical solutions supporting Finance and Supply Chain.  Reviews and analyzes industry solutions and tools to support the business.
  • Monitors SAP FICO and MM processes and migrations to the production landscape.
  • Works with other SAP team members, IT staff and external suppliers to analyze proposed changes to SAP technical configuration settings to optimize overall application performance.
  • Supports business implementations by sharing best practice and configuration skills.
  • Supports production configuration and assist in functional change requests.
  • Acts as a liaison with external suppliers on projects and enhancements.
  • Responds to user requirements, problem resolution, develop designs, and process modeling.
  • Ensures common configuration where appropriate.
  • Defines maintenance and other system improvements as needed.
  • Ensures adherence to methodology, change control, and compliance requirements.
  • Develops functional design for release upgrades or new functionality/enhancement assessments and make recommendations.
  • Works with external suppliers and end users to facilitate problem resolution.
  • Drives sound and professional IT project management and IT application development and delivery processes. 
  • Collaborates with Finance and Supply Chain organizations to ensure organizational readiness including business process changes, people changes, change management and communication.
  • Creates plans and lead QA/test activities for configuration/development activities.
  • Maintains project schedules and manage progress (including budget and timelines) toward final solution and results.
  • Maintains project communications with process owners, project sponsors, and management within SAP Support.




  • 7+ years of SAP MM or FICO configuration mandatory, including 2 full life cycle implementation.
  • 5+ years in a production support role working with Finance or Supply Chain users5+ years in Lead role supervising a team
  • Experience with SAP ECC 6.0.
  • Comprehensive understanding of SAP FI, CO, SD and MM modules.
  • Familiarity with integration of SAP MM, PM, and FICO
  • Small project management experience.
  • Experience in drilling industry is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience as systems consultant desired (or proven track record in key leadership roles in fast paced, multi-tasking organization).
  • Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Experience with Vendor Invoice Management (VIM) is a plus.
